Mary Ball Washington Museum & Library
Historical Significance
The Mary Ball Washington Museum & Library is a regional history center named in honor of George Washington's mother, who was born in Lancaster County. The center is located on a five-acre complex that encompasses the original 1742 courthouse green. The facility houses many 17th - 20th century archives and artifacts related to the history, culture and people of the Northern Neck, including a rich genealogy research library.
Physical Description
Mary Ball Washington Museum and Library is on a five-acre site which includes the Lancaster House (c. 1830) museum, clerk's office (c. 1797), archaeological remnants and library with research facility.
